🎮 WHY I BUILT THIS

I failed the CPA exam 7 times.

During those dark years, I desperately needed a way to blow off steam that didn't involve punching walls. I needed study breaks that actually helped me decompress without doom scrolling into a Reddit panic spiral about everyone else passing while I kept failing.

So I built what I wish I'd had: a free DOOM-styled video game designed specifically for CPA candidates. And when one of our users told me the game literally tricked him into answering test bank questions late at night and he credits it with helping him pass FAR, I knew we had something worth sharing with everyone.

— Bryan Kesler, CPA (eventually)

THE HIDDEN COST OF YOUR "STUDY BREAKS"

Smart CPA candidates don't usually fail because they lack content. They fail because nobody taught them a repeatable system for HOW to study. And one piece of that system that gets zero attention? What you do during your breaks.

Here's what most candidates do when they need a mental reset:

  • Open Instagram or TikTok → 45 minutes vanish, followed by guilt and a foggy brain
  • Check r/CPA on Reddit → Read about someone failing for the 5th time, spiral into panic about your own score
  • Watch YouTube → The algorithm serves you everything except motivation to go back to MCQs

⚠️ THE DOOM SCROLL TRAP

Your brain thinks it's resting, but it's actually processing hundreds of micro-decisions, comparisons, and anxiety triggers. You return to studying more depleted than before. Sometimes too depleted to study at all. If you're someone who already struggles to focus, this pattern is especially destructive. (If that sounds familiar, you may want to read about how Kesler CPA Review is built for candidates with ADHD.)

The problem isn't that you need breaks. You absolutely need breaks.

The problem is that most "breaks" destroy your focus for the next study session. Social media has infinite scroll. Video games have no end. Neither has anything to do with passing the CPA exam.

What if your break could keep your brain in CPA mode, give you a dopamine hit, AND not cost you any focus for the next study session?

CPA EXAM SURVIVAL: A STUDY BREAK THAT ACTUALLY HELPS YOU PASS

CPA Exam Survival is a free, DOOM-styled first-person shooter designed specifically for CPA candidates who need to decompress without completely disconnecting from exam prep.

Two game modes. Zero cost. Built by someone who understands the pain of failing and coming back.

ZOMBIE SURVIVAL MODE

Free Account Required

This is where studying happens without you realizing it. Navigate maps, find question consoles, and answer real CPA exam MCQs. Correct answers earn health and ammo. Wrong answers leave you vulnerable to zombies. Your brain stays in CPA mode while getting the dopamine break it's begging for.

HOW ZOMBIE SURVIVAL MODE WORKS

The gameplay loop is simple and addictive. Here's why it works when "just do more MCQs" doesn't:

Finding MCQ Console in CPA Exam Survival
Step 1: Find MCQ Consoles on the Map
Answering MCQ in CPA Exam Survival
Step 2: Answer Real CPA Exam MCQs
  • Correct answers → Earn health, ammo, and bonus time to keep surviving
  • Wrong answers → Lose resources, become exposed to zombie hordes
  • Clear all consoles → Unlock the next wave and level up
  • Track your stats → See your accuracy and improvement over time

The questions come directly from the Kesler CPA Review test bank, real MCQs mapped to the current exam blueprints. You're actually studying. You just don't realize it because you're too busy not getting eaten.

If you're a visual learner who struggles with text-heavy study methods, the game format adds a layer of visual engagement that traditional MCQ grinding simply can't match.

THE PROOF: STEVEN PASSED FAR

This is the part where most product launches trot out vague claims. I'm going to let Steven speak for himself instead. He used CPA Exam Survival while prepping for a FAR retake, and this is the message he sent me after his score came back:

🏆 CANDIDATE SPOTLIGHT: STEVEN M.

✓ Passed FAR
Right before my exam, I used the last few study funnels, CPA Exam Survival (I love DOOM), and went over the "Final Review Study Funnel" mentorship video.
I'm so glad that I ran into the Final Review Study Funnel video. 2 days before the exam, I had not done a simulated exam because I thought I was crunching for time on my weak areas. Immediately after that video, I put it on my calendar to do a Becker SE1 the next day. Had I not done the simulated exam, I wouldn't have had the pace that I had for my FAR exam.
With my results from the Becker, I referred to the Kesler textbook on weak areas AND areas which I thought I was confident in. I noticed that I had made simple mistakes in NFP Rev. Recog. (F6) and Financial Reporting (F1).
I believe I passed because of the (1) mentorship video, (2) Kesler textbook not reading like an academic accounting textbook, and the (3) CPA Exam Survival game that tricked me into answering testbank questions when I was tired late into the night.
Now, I'm going to do the entire mentorship course and include those study funnels into my routine to make it easier on me getting closer to exam day. Going to start AUD starting 3/1/2026.

— Steven M.

FAR Passed • Used Becker + Kesler CPA Review + CPA Exam Survival

Read that last line again: "tricked me into answering testbank questions when I was tired late into the night."

That's the entire point of CPA Exam Survival. When you're too fried to open your review course, too burned out to grind through another 30 MCQs in a test bank interface, this game keeps your brain engaged with real exam content disguised as a DOOM-style shooter.

Steven also used the Kesler mentorship, our textbook, and his Becker course. CPA Exam Survival didn't replace his study plan. It plugged into the gaps that every candidate has: the tired nights, the zero-motivation sessions, the moments where you'd normally doom scroll instead.

WHY THIS ACTUALLY WORKS (AND DOOM SCROLLING DOESN'T)

✅ PRODUCTIVE BREAKS VS. DESTRUCTIVE BREAKS

CPA Exam Survival is different from social media because: (1) A game session has a clear end, unlike infinite scroll. (2) You stay mentally connected to CPA content instead of drifting into unrelated noise. (3) Gaming engages your brain actively instead of passively consuming content. (4) Zombie Survival Mode feeds you real MCQs in a low-pressure context, so you're reinforcing knowledge without the anxiety of "studying."

The goal isn't to turn your break into more studying. The goal is to take a break that doesn't torpedo your momentum for the next study session. There's a huge difference between those two things.

WHAT THE CPA COMMUNITY IS SAYING

The reaction from Reddit's r/CPA community has been overwhelmingly positive.
